On Monday, a 5.2 earthquake shook San Diego County and SDSU scientists said they discovered new fault lines, underwater landslides and tsunami triggers during a 12-day cruise aboard the Sally Ride.
The study, begun two years ago more than 90 miles off San Diego’s coast, warns that coastal areas could face dangerous tsunami risks though no damage or injuries were reported.

More than $23 million went to the San Diego River Conservancy for wildfire prevention projects as Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 100 on Monday, part of a $170 million statewide funding round.
The governor’s office also issued an executive order—using a previous order to suspend environmental rules—to speed up these projects.
City of Escondido invites residents to join budget workshops to share ideas for local priorities in the upcoming fiscal year.
The sessions will be held on April 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. at City Hall Mitchell Room — on April 26 from 6 to 7 p.m. at East Valley Community Center Vineyard Room.
