Realtor.com's April report shows that a median home in the greater San Diego area costs $979,500 and requires an annual income of about $258,926 — a 73% increase in income needed compared to past years — while the area saw a 70.1% rise in inventory growth.

The board on Tuesday rejected a proposal by Terra Lawson-Remer and Monica Montgomery Steppe to use reserve funds to avoid cuts to health, housing and care services—vote was 2-1-1 after public debate.

The plan aimed to reduce reserve requirements to unlock nearly $380 million but did not pass.
