Officials at the San Diego Humane Society said it took in 267 animals in one day, including 96 guinea pigs from an Escondido pet owner and 50 chicks from El Cajon that will be up for adoption in five days if unclaimed.
Shelter staff quickly triaged the animals—some needing prompt care—and stressed that fostering is a good alternative if a full adoption commitment is not possible.
National University opened a new co-learning hub (The Nest) at its Kearny Mesa campus last Friday to support students who are parents, seeking career help or serving in the military with writing coaches, study spaces and free or low-cost child care.
