  • The Native Youth Foundation of Escondido received a $5,000 grant at the 5th Annual Morongo Community Outreach Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, May 13 to empower Indigenous youth through free sports seminars and educational workshops. Board member Nelletta Reed said the funds will expand services for tribal children.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • SANDAG invites cyclists and the bike-curious to join Bike Anywhere Day today from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at over 100 pit stops from Oceanside to Tijuana, with Flagship Cruises + Events offering ferry refreshments from 4:50 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.  NBC San Diego

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chipotle opened its fourth location at 507 W. Mission Ave. on Tuesday, May 12, featuring a Chipotlane drive-thru that lets guests pick up mobile orders + offering new menu items including a high protein option. The restaurant is open daily from 10:30 am to 11 pm.  Escondido Times-Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • The California Center for the Arts has launched the Legacy Wall inside the Concert Hall Lobby to invite community members to leave their names on personalized tiles starting at a $250 contribution. The project supports free concerts and community events and is limited to 219 tiles.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • On May 15, a large-scale metal sculpture called Threshold Five was unveiled at Kit Carson Park. The installation, created by ArtBuilds and funded by Escondido Community Foundation, sits near Eagle Scout Lake (at the intersection of Entrance Drive and Castaneda Drive).  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • A 30-foot skeleton remains on display year-round in Escondido – its seasonal themes include hearts in February, Thanksgiving images in November, and beachwear in summer, offering a creative but debated nod to local holiday decor.  Escondido Times-Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Escondido drivers may face higher pump prices during Memorial Day travel as national averages surpass $4 per gallon, with California prices around $6.15. AAA forecasts heavy travel and proposals to suspend federal gas taxes (intended to ease costs) may affect fuel expenses.  CBS8

  • North County Baseball and Softball teams finished games with scores like Brawley 5, El Camino 4, and Capitan 7, El Camino 3; David Willauer shared the box scores by email to keep local fans informed.  The Vista Press
