COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young entrepreneurs will launch their own businesses at the Acton Children’s Business Fair on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at North County Mall’s Center Court—children up to age 13 will run booths and learn essential business skills.  Escondido Times-Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • The first cabaret show in Escondido took place at Bellamy’s—on Grand Avenue—with singer Mel Collins performing jazz standards outdoors with a limited menu and a one drink minimum; the next show, 'Me, Myself, and Barbra,' will be on June 22.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • Bob Will will receive the first Lifetime Achievement Award at the North County Arts Awards for his strong support of arts, culture and education in Escondido. The awards event will have a black-tie dinner on June 28 at the CCAE Conference Center — tickets are now on sale for those invited to join the celebration.  Escondido Times-Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Twelve fourth-grade students were honored at City Council on May 21 for winning the 'Love Water, Save Water' poster contest as part of the City's Water Science Education Program — the winners from Heritage Elementary, Lincoln Elementary and Grace Christian School will have their artwork featured in the 2026 North County Water Agency Water Awareness Calendar — the contest drew nearly 100 entries focused on water conservation.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • City staff nearly completed the emergency repair of the trunk sewer main that served 30% of Escondido after an emergency was declared on June 17 and workers replaced aged concrete with new PVC pipe that increased the diameter from 21 to 24 inches. The project cost about $10.2 million and came in under budget with local CCL Contracting Inc. coordinating with residents to limit disruptions—public notices kept them informed—while any unused funds remained in the wastewater reserve.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • San Diego County ARCC Jordan Z. Marks and the California Secretary of State will host a one-day Apostille Pop-Up Shop on June 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Room #273 of the San Diego County Administration Center on Pacific Highway—providing local residents with in-person authentication of documents and free underground parking at the Ash Street entrance without an appointment.  Escondido Times-Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study from UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography published Tuesday found that over 90% of freshwater fish caught in San Diego County were infected with trematode parasites that may cause gastrointestinal problems. The research examined 84 fish from seven species at five popular fishing spots—experts say proper cooking or freezing the fish for at least a week can prevent illness.  NBC San Diego
