- ➤ Construction on the Grand Avenue Vision Project has wrapped up after years of work — a $15 million effort that improved sidewalks, added parking, and updated streetlights — and local business owners expect more foot traffic this summer. The city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, June 13 — which will also mark the start of the Cruisin' Grand event featuring classic cars — to celebrate the downtown improvements. - ➤ The San Diego Humane Society said 293 pets were adopted from its shelters during California Adopt-a-Pet Day held on Saturday. The shelter provided spay/neuter treatment, vaccinations, microchip identification and a free veterinary exam for each pet while extending summer weekend hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Escondido to help more pets find homes.
