ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • SDFD responded to a structure fire in the 4000 block of Altadena Ave in Colina Del Sol on Saturday at around 5 p.m., extinguishing the flames by 5:20 p.m. and transporting one person with unknown injuries to a local hospital in stable condition—Red Cross aid has been requested for displaced residents and the cause is under investigation.  NBC San Diego

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Camp Pendleton began live-fire training with high explosive munitions on June 28 and will continue the exercises through July 6 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. + Local residents in North County may hear loud booms at varying times during the drills.  NBC San Diego

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marlene Swanson started Desiray’s Lights of Joy nonprofit to honor her daughter who died on June 16 at Rady Children's Hospital after battling blood cancer and lung disease—28 neon signs have been donated to young transplant patients so far and more donations are welcomed.  NBC San Diego

SPORTS NEWS

  • Before the season, the Padres signed Gavin Sheets to a one-year, $1.5 million deal, and on Saturday he hit two doubles and a go-ahead three-run homer in Cincinnati—helping secure a 6-4 win. The team will try to take the series today with Stephen Kolek starting.  NBC San Diego
  • San Diego FC scored a stoppage time goal for a 3-2 win over FC Dallas — Tomas Angel fired the game-winner in the 6th minute of added time — while Anders Dreyer both scored and assisted in a match played on Saturday. The team will host Houston on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium.  NBC San Diego
