COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ After a CBS 8 segment, Wylde Horses in Valley Center received 25 new volunteer sign-ups to help with its busy horse therapy sessions—founded by Rachael Martin to support her son Wylde, who has a rare genetic condition. The ranch now offers nearly 100 sessions a week for individuals with special needs and is raising funds for a new shade structure to allow lessons during hot weather. CBS8
- ➤ The San Diego Humane Society said nearly 200 small pets—121 guinea pigs, 52 rabbits and 12 rodents—need loving homes as they face space shortages. People can adopt these animals from the Society's campuses, including Escondido, during regular operating hours. CBS8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bishop Michael Pham was installed last Thursday as the leader of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego at St. Therese of Carmel Parish, where over 1,200 people attended the Mass. He replaces Cardinal Robert McElroy and is the first Vietnamese American to lead a U.S. diocese—appointed by Pope Leo XIV. NBC San Diego
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones from Escondido spoke today on the State Capitol steps with parents and lawmakers to oppose Assembly Bill 84— a measure that would cut over $1 billion from classrooms and restrict charter and homeschool choices. The Senate Education Committee will vote on the bill later. The Vista Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Senator Brian W. Jones held an oversight hearing in Sacramento to question the Department of State Hospitals and Liberty Healthcare, saying that rising costs + a 36% reoffense rate signal that the Sexually Violent Predator Conditional Release Program is failing to protect local communities. He said his bill, SB 380, will require a study of secure state-run transitional housing + a new plan to keep dangerous predators out of neighborhoods. The Vista Press

- ➤ Sports radio host Chris Ello expressed concerns about the Padres’ playoff chances because their hitting was inconsistent and he worried about Michael King’s health, noting the team would need him back in August. He also said he liked the new Swing-Off format for the All-Star Game—although he suggested that pitchers should participate rather than coaches—to make the event more engaging. CBS8
