COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The San Diego Humane Society in Escondido invites local residents to adopt nearly 200 small pets+121 guinea pigs, 52 rabbits, and 12 rodents, though fewer than half are ready due to pending treatments and surgeries; adoption centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends until 7 p.m.  CBS8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, a 136-unit apartment project at 620 E. Valley Pkwy in Escondido that will house low-income seniors and formerly homeless veterans received a $2 million grant from the state’s REAP 2.0 funding — one of 10 affordable housing projects to benefit from a total of $14 million. Officials say the project will add 966 units to the county housing market between December 2026 and June 2030 — plans that county supervisors approved in May.  The Coast News

  • Friday night at Nationals Park, Padres pitcher Dylan Cease struck out 10 in 5.1 shutout innings while Manny Machado hit a grand slam that powered the Padres to a 7-2 win over the Nationals.  NBC San Diego
  • Hayden Gray, a Santa Fe Christian alum and Solana Beach native, made his NBA Summer League debut with the Celtics in Las Vegas before today. His high school friends—Keaton Smith and Trevor Martin—watched him as he focused on his defense in limited minutes.  The Coast News
