- ➤ A new Women's Veteran Center will open around August 15 in Escondido as a free program for women veterans and their children run by local nonprofit Wounded Warrior Homes. - ➤ Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 130 on June 30, which changed the housing law by removing several building restrictions, exempting some projects from CEQA requirements, and pausing code changes for six years & offering developers more flexibility. - ➤ At the July 23 meeting, Escondido Neighbors for Solutions asked the city council to adopt a resolution to protect residents from federal immigration enforcement and uphold constitutional rights—spokesman Gregg Oliver said the draft will be reviewed and set for a vote at the next meeting once two council members sponsor it. - ➤ Rincon Del Diablo Municipal Water District received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the third consecutive year after it completed its annual comprehensive financial report ending June 30 (fiscal year 2024) and its finance team earned an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (the highest honor in government financial reporting), officials said.
