COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Escondido Recreation will host the End of Summer Glow Party at Washington Park Pool on Saturday, August 10 from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.—tickets will cost $5 and the event will feature glow-in-the-dark music, games and giveaways. The Labor Day Open Swim will take place at the same location on Monday, September 2 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.—entry will be $5 per person or $13 for up to five members of a household.  City of Escondido
  • Today, Firangi Indian Gastropub holds its grand opening celebration at 291 E. Grand Avenue at 5 p.m., while Mesa Agricola—a new farm-to-table restaurant by AgX Hackathon winner Megan Strom—will open this weekend at 707 S. Escondido Blvd with a grand opening on August 9, and See’s Candies will mark its 50th anniversary on August 15 at 10 a.m. at 1005 E.   • Downtown Escondido shows visitors a mix of long-established and modern businesses along 2nd Ave with Twinkle Tub Laundry & Cleaners, Copymat, Fresh Cafe, Mi Reyna Tortilleria and Gems N’ Loans providing unique services. The Escondido Downtown Business Association has supported the Historic Downtown since 1962—strengthening community commerce for local residents.  Escondido Times-Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • CCAE Theatricals celebrated its two-year anniversary with plans to restructure staffing, update programming and launch a fundraising campaign to support upcoming shows and new venue partnerships in Escondido (including the Don Anderson Community Center and Oak Hill Activity Center). The organization will hold a staged reading festival on August 16 and produce Theatre for Young Audiences in Fall and a mainstage production in Spring—ticket holders will be informed of changes.  Escondido Times-Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting this week, construction crews are upgrading water facilities on Bear Valley Parkway north of San Pasqual Road by closing a traffic lane and a bike lane every weekday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for four weeks—flag crews and signs will help direct traffic and ensure water delivery remains reliable.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • City Manager Sean McGlynn directed street repairs in Escondido using sales tax revenue from Measure I passed last November, with funds set to be fully allocated after the Citizens Oversight Committee met beginning August 6. Repair work has caused minor delays as crews reduce road lanes—drivers may wait a few extra minutes for the smoother ride once repairs are complete.  Escondido Times-Advocate
