- ➤ Escondido City Council approved a lease with The VINE Institute to transform a vacant building on Quince Street into a regional ag‑tech hub that will support local farmers, entrepreneurs, and high school students with new agriculture programs. The project will invest about $1.3 million in renovations—along with $500,000 in startup funding—and the lease includes options extending up to 15 years. The Coast News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ San Diego County’s Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office will return $1,139,000 in unclaimed funds to rightful owners if claims are filed by Oct. 5 before the money is added to the general fund. Residents with refunds between $15 and $33,261.31—due to overpaid taxes or undeliverable checks—should use county instructions to claim their money. CBS8
- ➤ Construction on the SR-78 Asset Management Project began in May and will continue until 2027 to improve safety and extend pavement life along a 17.7-mile corridor from Interstate 5 in Oceanside to Broadway and Lincoln Parkway in Escondido—this effort will include pavement rehabilitation, traffic management system upgrades, and safety enhancements, costing about $126 million.
