  • Police say a man found with stab wounds at Escondido Transit Center died after being taken to the hospital Saturday morning, and officers later arrested 33-year-old San Diego woman Kandilaria Freeman—charged with murder.  NBC San Diego

  • Over 60 volunteer teams completed their short films in the 48 Hour Film Festival yesterday as local directors and crew met a timed challenge. A new San Diego County Film Initiative has begun after Governor Newsom signed a $750 million tax credit law to help bring movie projects back—local filmmakers like Jordan Jacobo are using donated locations to tell their stories.  NBC San Diego

HEALTH NEWS

  • Scientists reported that the invasive longhorned tick now carries the Ehrlichiosis bacteria and warmer weather allows it to be active all year—raising health concerns as about 60% of infected patients have needed hospitalization. Health officials advise Escondido residents to wear long pants and check for ticks after spending time outdoors.  NBC San Diego
  • San Diego Foundation announced on August 15 that it awarded $500,000 in grants to nine nonprofits to boost mental health services for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander youth—these funds will support screening, treatment and leadership programs to reduce access barriers.  The Coast News
