  • The 5th Annual Chamber Cup Challenge will be held on September 12 at The Vineyard Golf Course in Escondido with registration starting at 6:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.—Mayor Dane White serves as Honorary Tournament Chairman while the event will raise funds for the Police Athletic League and Rising Stars scholarship program.  Escondido Times-Advocate

  • My San Diego North County will present the End of Summer 10th Annual North County Business Expo on September 24 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido where over 70 vendors and over 400 attendees will gather; the event will feature a Hispanic Heritage Award presentation at 3 p.m. & Best of Escondido Eats Restaurant Awards with local Chambers invited.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • See’s Candies in Escondido celebrated its 50th anniversary on August 15 with free tote bags for the first 100 customers and special candy giveaways—drawing longtime customers, former employees, and fans to enjoy treats like scotch mallows and peanut brittle. CRIME NEWS

  • A man about 60 was fatally stabbed near the platform at Escondido Transit Center just after 8 a.m. Saturday and officers arrested 33-year-old Kandilaria Freeman that evening—she is charged with murder without bail due to a probation violation.  Escondido Times-Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • Escondido Chorale Arts Foundation invites singers to join the Center Chorale and Children’s Chorus for a season of music performances at venues like the California Center for the Arts and The Ritz Theater—auditions for the Center Chorale are on September 8 and registration opens on August 1 while the children’s group also seeks an assistant/intern and rehearses on Mondays from 4-5:15 p.m. at the CCAE Conference Center.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • Downtown Escondido hosts many dance schools that teach ballet, tap and hip hop, including Georgia’s School Of Dance, Arthur Murray Dance School and Best Foot Forward Dance Studio. The CAHS Dance Team seeks sponsors and performances take place at the restored Grand Ritz Theater — a blend of local tradition and modern talent.  Escondido Times-Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 13, Escondido City Council sent a letter to five local congressional leaders urging federal immigration reform to support the community’s key industries and address issues like workforce stability—Councilmember Christian Garcia led the effort with Mayor Dane White’s backing.  The Coast News
  • Escondido lands are now valued at a record $24 billion with a 4.03% jump from last year, and San Diego County’s overall taxable property value reached an all-time high of $806 billion—figures set by the completed 2025 tax roll assessment. Local officials noted that these record values will provide stable revenue for schools, parks, and public safety services under Proposition 13.  Escondido Times-Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, as an intense late-summer heat wave settles in San Diego County, the San Diego Humane Society reminds residents to protect their pets from dangerous temperatures by keeping them indoors with cool air, plenty of water and shade, and by never leaving them in parked cars.
