COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Trudy Armstrong of Escondido received Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award for her dedication that reflects Rotary’s motto. The top honor is given annually to one district recipient among up to 150 honorees — a recognition of her exemplary service.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • The Main Escondido Post Office will host the 'Date meets ZIP' event on Sept 20 when the date 9-20 aligns with its ZIP 92025—an occurrence that happens once a century. Retired postal worker Conrad Beck said the celebration will start at 9 a.m. and include bands, cheerleaders, cake and a silly string salute at 9:20:25—featuring Mayor Dane White and Miss Escondido.  Escondido Times-Advocate
  • Escondido Clubhouse’s Grand Gathering Fundraiser will be held Saturday, October 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Synergy CoWorking Centre, 140 N Escondido Blvd, to raise funds for programs aiding mental health and employment readiness + facility improvements. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists at the San Diego Natural History Museum used AI to confirm that red-legged frogs hatched and bred in a pond after eggs were airlifted from a ranch in Mexico. They plan to continue moving egg masses to build a sustainable wild population & restore the native ecosystem.  NBC San Diego

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The county Planning Commission approved the controversial Harmony Grove Village South project with 453 homes, commercial space, parks, and trails despite residents warning that its location in a very high fire hazard zone and lack of a secondary access road may worsen evacuation concerns. The project now goes back to the Board of Supervisors for a final decision as locals hope for measures to keep families safe—residents recall past wildfires that have strained local evacuation efforts.  The Coast News

  • Downtown Escondido offers many unique watering holes—Pounders Sports Pub stays open until 2 a.m. and allows outside food, Industry Tap Room rotates local brews, and a new Escondido Social Taproom by local owners is coming this summer—each giving residents distinct evening choices.  Escondido Times-Advocate

  • The Escondido Youth Baseball 10U All-Stars finished among the top four teams on the West Coast this summer after winning key games at several tournaments.
