COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Escondido Grape Day Festival will be held Saturday, September 13 and presented by Escondido History Center and Brothers of 6, offering grape stomping, live music, children’s activities, arts and crafts, and an antique farm equipment display with free parking and admission. The day will begin at 8 a.m. with the 15th annual Grape Day 5K at Grape Day Park (321 North Broadway) to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis and community causes.  Escondido Times-Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Escondido began essential work on its Emergency Trunk Sewer Replacement Project in two areas on Tuesday, September 2—replacing nearly 1,930 feet of sewer main along East Valley Parkway with overnight shifts and replacing a manhole plus installing a 24-inch pipe on North Fig Street with a full closure until September 19.  City of Escondido
  • Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer wants to expand the county's legal aid program to include unaccompanied minors after federal funding cuts left them without lawyers. The board will vote on the proposal on Sept 9—using funds from the $5 million budget to boost minors' chance of success in court.  NBC San Diego

HEALTH NEWS

  • Last week the newspaper solicited Escondido residents to share their Emergency Room experiences at Palomar Hospital and received many negative responses until nearly identical positive ones started coming in—submitted by Innovision Marketing Group employees. The paper has informed Palomar of the attempt to tilt the survey and is waiting for comments from the hospital board.  Escondido Times-Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Escondido High Cougars defeated Classical Academy in a 32-14 game last Friday as senior Bowyn Cannon scored multiple touchdowns—boosting the team’s momentum. Running back Jj Bejar added 171 rushing yards—helping the Cougars secure a key win for the new season.  Escondido Times-Advocate
