  • Three concerts will be held at the historic Sunshine Brooks Theater with the Johnny V Vernazza Band and Shane Hall performing a blues show on Friday, September 26 at 6 p.m. — Kori Gillis will lead a Stevie Wonder tribute on Saturday, September 27 at 7 p.m. and L Young with Crystal Starr will honor Marvin Gaye on Saturday, October 4 at 7 p.m.  The Vista Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two baby Masai giraffes named Subeera and Matope were introduced at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, with one calf born on April 23 and the names announced on Tuesday—Subeera meaning patience is rewarded and Matope meaning mud—supporting conservation of the endangered species. The zoo continues to monitor the calves as they grow into important members of the park’s breeding program.  NBC San Diego

  • Senator Brian W. Jones announced that three bills passed unanimously in the legislature — now on the governor’s desk awaiting his signature.
