EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families are fighting the school district's plan to eliminate sixth through eighth grade classes at several K-8 schools including Bethune, Audubon, Fulton and Golden Hill — the decision affects schools south of Interstate 8.  NBC San Diego
  • Parents of Bethune students asked the superintendent to rethink plans to move sixth through eighth graders to Bell Middle School—parents say keeping students at Bethune offers stability. The superintendent said she may change the plan after meeting with school leaders later this week.  NBC San Diego

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Padres beat the White Sox 3-2 on Sunday at Rate Field—dropping their Magic Number to 2 with six games remaining at Petco Park. They will need a win and losses by Cincinnati and New York as they open Monday's series, so the earliest postseason celebration can start Tuesday night.  NBC San Diego
