CULTURE NEWS

  • The Escondido Art Association is hosting its October Gallery Show 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' with up to 3 entries per artist for 2D and 3D art and varying entry fees for members and non-members. Local illustrator Megan Darrough will judge the entries and offer a free 2-hour demonstration at the gallery on October 9 from 2—4 p.m. with a reception on October 11 from 4—6 p.m.  The Vista Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Alex Tardy from Weather Echo warned that California will face a dry winter as persistent La Niña and neutral Pacific conditions will reduce the number of atmospheric rivers — leading to long dry stretches and lower reservoir levels.  CBS8

  • Tanis Brown was appointed by the Vallecitos Water District Board on September 17 to fill the vacant Division 5 seat—representing parts of San Marcos and Lake San Marcos. She will serve until December 2026 while helping set water and sewer policies.  The Vista Press

  • Home prices in San Diego County declined last month as the median sale price dropped to $1.02 million from $1.04 million in July—while home sales increased 1.3% from July but fell 0.6% compared to August. The change in prices suggests a shift in market trends that buyers will watch closely in the coming months.  NBC San Diego

  • The Padres defeated the Brewers 5-4 in extra innings at Petco Park — clinching a postseason spot for the second consecutive year.  NBC San Diego
  • Monday night, the Padres beat the Brewers 5 to 4 in 11 innings at Petco Park after Freddy Fermin’s walk-off single sent them to the MLB playoffs—42,371 fans watched the game. The win marks a key milestone as the team continues its strong postseason streak.  NBC San Diego
