  • Dozens of family and friends gathered at Mt. Soledad on Saturday to honor Major Robert L. Barto, a 100-year-old World War Two veteran who served 30 years in the Marine Corps — a plaque marking his service was unveiled during a ceremony attended by his loved ones.  NBC San Diego

  • Gypsy Treasure is keeping its prices steady for costumes as it faces rising costs from tariffs this Halloween season. The National Retail Federation forecasts record spending of 13.1 billion dollars with 79% of shoppers expecting higher prices.  NBC San Diego

  • A new law in California now permits a blend of gas that drivers say is expected to lower fuel prices — NBC 7's Brooke Martell explained the potential savings this change could bring. Drivers can look forward to reduced pump costs as the law goes into effect.  NBC San Diego
  • A new water year started on October 1—Susan Robinson at Correcaminos Vineyard in Ramona said her harvest yielded only 2 tons per acre, much lower than expected due to low rainfall, and local vine growers plan to increase irrigation if rains do not improve.  NBC San Diego

  • Six candidates for governor participated in an AFSCME union forum in San Diego on Oct 4, where each candidate shared their views and answered questions from union members; union leaders said the forum helped workers voice concerns about wages and benefits plus candidates promised to address these issues.  NBC San Diego

SPORTS NEWS

  • Anders Dreyer scored twice as San Diego FC earned a 4 to 2 road win over Houston on Saturday that marked the club's 18th victory of the season and broke an MLS expansion record from 2023. The team reached 60 points and surpassed LAFC's previous high of 57—maintaining an unbeaten road streak and leading the Western Conference.  NBC San Diego
