- ➤ American Legion Post 365 and VFW Post 7041 will host a Halloween party in Escondido on October 25 from 5—9 p.m. with a costume challenge. They will also hold a trunk-or-treat event for children on October 31 from 5—7 p.m. The Vista Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Escondido Art Association announced their November gallery show 'Honoring Our Veterans' which will welcome all subjects and accept up to three art entries per artist under size limits with take-in on Nov. 1 and a show running from Nov. 5 through Dec. 5 (entry fees vary for members and non-members). Local artist Jenny Leeg will judge the submissions, offer a free two-hour demonstration on Nov. 6, and host a gallery reception on Nov. 8. The Vista Press

- ➤ On Monday, MiraCosta College and National University announced an expanded partnership that offers steep tuition discounts—up to 46% for associate transfers and 25% for other degree programs—to students, alumni and employees. The deal also provides flexible online and hybrid options to help non-traditional students advance their careers. NBC San Diego

- ➤ CCE and NCCCA will host an online event on Nov. 13 where Greg Wade, CEO of Clean Energy Alliance, will talk about new Solar Plus plans and efforts to help cities lower greenhouse gas emissions — the event will include time for Q&A. The Vista Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new SDSU study shows that a one-week surfing program lowered depression by 44% right away for veterans with PTSD while also reducing anxiety and improving sleep using adaptive supports and peer sessions with yoga and stretching. The research led by marketing lecturer Jonathan Ossie suggests that such non-clinical programs may later work with traditional care to boost long-term mental health. NBC San Diego
