- ➤ Escondido celebrated the completion of Phase 2 of the Grand Avenue Vision Project with a ribbon cutting and Cruisin’ Grand celebration on June 13—officials noted that part of S. Juniper Street was closed to manage traffic during the event. City of Escondido
- ➤ Feeding San Diego's Feeding Heroes campaign uses every donation to deliver food to local veterans and military families facing hunger in San Diego County+ each dollar provides 2 meals locally. CBS8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cal Fire unveiled its latest Fire Hazard Severity Zone map on March 24 to show which areas in Escondido are most vulnerable to wildfires, with zones marked as moderate, high, and very high. The Escondido City Council must adopt the map within 120 days — once approved, new construction in high and very high zones will require ignition-resistant standards and sellers must disclose the hazard designation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Active construction began in March on the nearly five-mile Escondido Creek Trail project between Broadway and Juniper Street to improve community safety and connectivity. Crews cleared the area and are using decomposed granite as they work to complete the project in late 2025—readers should expect periodic trail closures for safety. City of Escondido
- ➤ In early February, crews planted Eastern Redbud trees along Subphase 1 (Juniper to Kalmia) and completed expanded sidewalk work in Subphase 2 ahead of a spring finish. By mid-February, demolition work in Subphase 3 preserved access as a new Broadway traffic circle took shape and temporary closures led drivers to alternate routes. City of Escondido
- ➤ The City of Escondido invited artists earlier this year to submit qualifications for a public art project at the Grand Avenue roundabout—designed to reflect what makes Escondido unique—and will evaluate public input before selecting finalists, with installation scheduled to begin in January 2026. - ➤ The Escondido Public Library relocated to North County Mall on May 27 after closing its main building on April 26—offering limited services at the Pioneer Room from April 28 to May 26. Repairs to fix roof leaks, HVAC failures, and outdated interiors began in June and will finish in March to improve services for over 150,000 residents. City of Escondido
- ➤ The City of Escondido announced that construction on the Escondido Creek Trail project began in February 2025 with crews surveying and checking for utilities between Citracado Parkway and Quince Street.
