- ➤ Female veterans and their children began moving into a new safe housing center in Escondido launched in August by local non-profit Wounded Warrior Homes to help them transition to civilian life. The center offers free transitional housing with counseling, education and job support, and first resident Emely, a Navy veteran, moved in with plans to reopen applications in January. CBS8
- ➤ Meals on Wheels of San Diego County visited 93-year-old veteran Ivan Ernie Pyle in Escondido on Veterans Day to thank him for his service and deliver a nutritious meal for him and his wife — Pyle, who joined the Air Force in 1951 and remains active in his community, said he is honored to have served. - ➤ San Diego County, Cal Fire, and several cities are offering free sandbags to help residents and businesses prepare for heavy rains and possible snow predicted Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday; officials advise calling ahead at sites such as Escondido's Deer Springs Fire Station — supplies may be limited.
